ABSTRACT

jQuery is a JavaScript library that stands out among its competitors
because it is faster, focuses on writing less code, and is very
extensible. In this talk, I will explore jQuery and how to use it. I
will start off talking about the basics of using jQuery. Then, I will
talk about building plugins. Finally, time permitting, I will take
apart some plugins and talk about how they work, and I will show the
nitty gritty details of the library.

Speaker: Dmitri Gaskin
Dmitri Gaskin drinks code with his cereal for breakfast every
morning. He's a jQuery whiz and a Drupal know-it-all. He
contributes patches for both Open Source projects. In the Drupal
world, he maintains many modules, is on the security team, and is
involved in the upcoming Summer of Code as a mentor and
administrator. Dmitri has given many talks on Drupal and jQuery, in
such places as Logitech, Drupalcon and live on a radio show out of
L.A. When Dmitri isn't coding, a very rare occurrence, he is playing
and composing contemporary music. And attending classes in the 6th
grade. (He's only 12.)

Dmitri is an inspiration. For all the folks asking about the js console he's using, it looks like Spidermonkey or Rhino. If you use Mac or Linux, I suggest using it. I'm only unsure about Windows because I don't use it.

Pretty good. I really like the dive in style he has. If he review his talks this kid will probably be a kick ass speaker soon. I really wish my talks were filmed too, what a great aid for improvement :)

:-) If Mark Shuttleworth didn't have Xs on the floor to walk to and could just sit behind a podium, I expect this is what his presentations would look like. :-) I must admit, he seems very well prepared, not only in content but also seems to present in similar fashion to many other tech talks I've watched.

This kid is absolutely amazing! This is a textbook example of a prodigy within a particular domain (Computer Science in this case).

(Dmitri) Thanks! I'm glad you liked my pacing. The reason I pace it so quickly is that at school, I am often bored. There is way to much practice. While I recognize some people may be slower learners, this is YouTube, so you can watch it again, while those who learn quicker can just watch through it once.

Still Dmitri. Another thing I wanted to say is I built a little thing that, when a jQuery object is the result of the eval(), it iterates through them and appends [TAGNAME, TAGNAME] for all of the selected elements. When (this is the part you couldn't see) you hovered over one of them, it put a small highlight on the element. It was a bit odd because I could see it on my screen but people couldn't see it on the projector, and I didn't realize that. So apologies for that, I should have checked.

Dimitri - Thank you so much for this jQuery tutorial!! I tend to get very bored when adults do demos. They sometimes dwell on stuff too long and I quickly loose interest (A.D.D.). Your pacing was perfect. You moved to the important stuff quickly and your live syntax demos were brilliant. Thanks again buddy! Keep them coming...
