Here is a scene from the TV movie "The Longest Hundred Miles" (Universal PIctures, 1967). Shot entirely on location in the Philippines, the movie starred Doug McClure as Corp. Steve Bennett, a US Army soldier staioned in the Philippines during world war II who escapes the Bataan death march and finds refuge in a church full or orphans run by Father Sanchez, played by Ricardo Montalban ("Fantasy Island") and a beautiful young US Navy nurse, Lt. Laura Huntington (Katharine Ross).
One of the orphans is a pretty young Filipina girl named Maria who is nursing a broken leg . The little girl is played by none other than famous Philippine dramatic actress Vilma Santos, or "Ate Vi" (Big sister Vi) as she is known to her fans.
Vilma Santos is currently the Governor of the Philippine province of Batangas.

napanood ko ito sa tv at katunayan nga ay tineyp ko pa ito noong sikat ang vhs tape. it was in the later part of the 80s. first time kong nakita noon. ngayon ko lang na-realize kasama pala sa pelikula si vilma santos.

di ko na mahanap ang vhs tape ko pero it's a good movie that showed the panoramic view of our ricefields and simple life in the barrio or province until the invasion of the japaneses.

I actually saw this movie for the time here in the United States. It was a made-for-T.V. movie here but was released in theatres in the Philippines. Vilma Santos was just an up and coming child actress then although she had already made many films by this time, including the Fredinand Marcos Story. She played Imee, the eldest daughter.

When I was a little boy growing up in the Philippines, I remember they used to show this on TV all the time! When I got older I searched for a copy of this movie, first on VHS then later on DVD because I remembered it from when I was a kid.
