I'm not saying he invented double bass drums or blast beats! what i'm saying is that he brought the techniques into the public eye. he may not be the best at his craft, but he's looked up to a great deal. but comparing him to todys metal drummers should'nt count, as these metal drummers from the hardcore scene draw in the blast beats in the studio using MIDI. that is a fact!

lars has no chops. i dont think if you asked him to play double strokes he would know how. literally. i dont wanna down him but ive searched for this guys reason to be even called a drummer and have yet to find him doing anything but fills i learned the first 3 days i got my kit or some boring double bass run. yeah he can play simple grooves but outside that he doesnt deserve the label drummer. period.

This guy can't play worth shit, I believe that much is clear. But Lars is the father of Metallica, and contributed to amazing songs like One, Master of Puppets, and the list just goes on, pretty much every kickass metallica song. That's something faster drummers like Joey, Lombardo can and will never achieve and thats what matters the most. SO RESPECT HIM FOOL, OR I'll find you And craCK yoUr SkuLL.

Yes. you are right about death metal drummers often being the best. George Kollias of Nile, that guy is absolutely insane. Vitek from Decapitated, he was one badass drummer. I have to say Kollias is one of the best metal drummers around right now.

the fastest drummer in the world is mike the machine, and no he isn't the best. (to filly dawg) And, to all those who think lars is better than buddy, YOUR FUCKING WRONG. Buddy Rick is a legend, the best. Lars, he's no good. He's been playing for several years, yet Iv'e never seen him play a "REAL" drum solo. Not a regular beat you would hear in a metal song. Real good metal drummers are often found in the death metal/grindcore scene. Despised Icon, Beneath The Massacre etc...

When i started to listen to metal bands Lars was a "great drummer" for me. However when i heard such drummers like Buddy Rich, Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart i come to the conclusion that Lars lost his crown... Buddy Rich is without doubt the legend and i don't think there is another drummer today who can play so well.
