Thanks!
That polyrythm at the end was awesome.
Glad everyone likes it! Thanks! I'm not sure why, but I wasn't receiving notification that there were responses to this particular video. Anyway, thanks! I know someone asked for simple beats... you can find basic beats at onlinedrummer
I don't play the drums, but these lessons are still quite interesting.
Man, I've been trying to figure out a way to "hear" quintuplets so that they feel natural, without having to count each stroke. THANKS for a very helpful lesson. Keep up the great work.
Great! Very glad it helped! Keep drumming!
That counting in threes method was a huge help, man. I used to just rely on muscle memory to cram the five strokes into my measure. That way's far more precise, allows me to feel the groove out alot better. Thanks!
oh... ok. haha
i think he thinks you sound like the pilot who speaks on the intercom while flying on the plane
ur welcome
Thanks!
woohoo!!!! but great drumming though.
Thanks? Not really sure what that group of words means... haha
hey wen u speak just like im in a plane lol
Sure thing! Here is a link to a few easy beats... Well, it won't let me put the link... not sure why... Anyway, go to OnlineDrummer.com. Then, click on "Basic Drum Beats" on the left under "Quick Links." Those are some basic beats for beginners. Hope that helps!
hey onlinedrummer iam only a beginer and i really need sum help hey like sum real easy beats to play u no could u help out
Fair enough... There are many different ways to count it. As with counting it in 3's, you will eventually be able to feels it. By counting 1, 2, 3 the way I described in the video you are really counting, and eventually feeeling, the 1, 3, and 5, like you said. The goal is to be able to eventually play it by feel at faster tempos. Thanks for sharing another counting technique!
I count it as a fast 5/8 meter and "feel" it in groups of two and three. At fast tempos you don't count 12345 but "feel" the 1 and 3 or 1 and 4. I think counting it as 3 might lead to some confusion.
Good idea!
a useful count for quintuplets :- one and a bit-ty, two and a bit-ty......... :) and sevens:- one and an-o-ther bit-ty, two and an-o-ther bit-ty.....
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
This is what I absolutely needed to get my face out of the book! I had become so technical in trying to learn in the past 10 mos that I became frustrated in improvising. You brought it home for me (technique, counting, listening and watching) that I've moved on to a whole new level. You rock! (THANK YOU)
Thanks! And pattberg... not sure I can make it to Brasil.. haha
Great teaching....nice work, sounds great!
hey come to brasil to teach me hahahahhaa thank you man !!!
Yep, if you start with your right hand, you would count every time you played your right hand. There's also another method for when you're playing very slowly. You can count every hit but do it this way... 1 e & ah 1 e & ah 2 e & ah 2 e & ah 3 e & ah 3 e & ah 4 e & ah 4 e & ah... I prefer the other method, though...
thanks
o, so i would only count one hand like... RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a
The method that I prefer is to count them like 16th notes (1 e & ah 2 e & ah 3 e & ah 4 e & ah) except instead of counting every time you hit the drum, count every other time you hit the drum... every two hits count one count. The first two hits will be "1." The second two are "e" The 3rd two are "&" .. and so on
im not a very expierenced drummer, only been playin for a couple years, but i was wondering how you count 32nd notes.
i like your lessons man,you are a great teacher
haha! Thanks guys! There will be plenty more, for sure! Check out OnlineDrummer.com and click on "Drum Lessons" for lessons that aren't on YouTube.
