| In Feb '98 Curtis had to have his right leg amputated due to diabetes. It is said that he sadly died a year later (Dec 26, 1999) due to complications of diabetes. Let us remember the legacy that his music has left, a truly talented musical genius. Rest in peace, Curtis. |

Both where good but I would have to go with Superfly, because what made "Shaft" dope was that it had unorthodox track lengths,instrumentals,and loaded with interludes, it was more orchestrated. Superfly was way shorter but personafied the songs better,Shaft felt like the background music in a movie while SuperFly sounded like the script...Just my opinion, SuperFly is better, a better movie too I love Isaac Hayes though, takin my babies (9,6,3,6months) to Stax next month. I RAP? |

| As the late, Barry White would've said Sho' you right!!! But it sho' would be nice to know what was the greatest soundtrack Issac Hayes "Shaft" or Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly" both in my opinion are DAMN good. They stand the test of time. |

| Great music- stands up very well 30 years later. Though the subject is rough, inner city life, and yes it's morally ambiguous - celebrates the life of drug pushers, hate Whitey, Black exploitation films, but the soul, music talent is there for all to see. Compare this great music to today's Black African American music - Rap/Hip Hop. Rap stinks - no musical talent, no message, no soul, just ignorant, talentless punks shouting, can't even understand the words. We should sterilize Rap singers. |

| Mayfield and Bobby Womack were trying to deliver the same message. Take this song and run it alongside 'across 110th street' by womack and you will see the similarities. The harlem drug ring i.e the council of seven were responsible for empowering african-americans in the wrong way, these guys were like 'it's cool, but there is more to us than just the dope' |
