How could I vote for Bush? He wasn't running in this election, dumbass! All politicians are lying co*k sucking pieces of garbage who tell you what you want to hear and then go ahead and do whatever the hell it is they wanted to do in the first place. A man who calls himself the first "black" president but likes to forget about his honkey tonk mom! BTW,am I right to assume you're married to a white woman? Probably dated black women untill you decided you wanted to fit in with your golfing buddies
You sound like you learned race relations from a COINTELPRO operative like the right "Reverend" Al Sharpton. You're killing us all, brother. Am I right to assume you have a job in the post office or McDonald's? I know for a natural fact that you aren't the CEO of anything but your the basement "apartment" in mom's garage. C'mon, psuedo-black man, forget the insults and jargon and tell us how you voted for G W Bush cause you hated the current President-to-be! Don't be 'shamed! Tell the world!
Love this song and anything Curtis Mayfield did. This is the first song I heard by Eva Cassidy which led me to collect all of her recordings. Eva departed this world way too soon, but the body of work that remains is absolutely amazing. Check her out, she's all over youtube.
LOL
Curtis Mayfield rules!
Wh dont you all hush up and listen. would everyone argue the same about whats the best sunset..Its not the point
they look like they are 1980's rock stars.HATE TO SAY THEY LOOK LIKE THEM TO.
Why the føck is'nt the: 'Who's gonna help brother get further' video avaiable in Norway???
is that david sanborn on sax? looks like him...
You are indeed a dumb ass of major proportions!
wow. David Lindly on pedal steel. The monster of all things slide.
why the argument? there's no doubt that there's magnificent music made by both black and white artists. such an argument belongs nowhere near a beautiful song about unity, peace and understanding.
This is the first thing I have ever seen Taylor Dane do that I don't utterly hate. And her color has nothing to do with it.
white woman fucking up a great song god damn white shit
its 08 to all u racist fuckers! it makes no difference if the prez of usa is of mixed race all that matters is wat u stand for! y even mention the colour of someones skin!
you probably gobble up all your aunt jemima pancakes and ask yo massa fo mo. uncle tom. have some loyalty
Uncle Tom
Read the post--it's a matter of taste. There are no black Pavarottis (tho black female opera singers cannot be "f"-ed with), Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt have no blk equivalents in c/w music, and once you leave the U.S. there are 1,000s of indigenous musics that have no blk folk performing them. You don't want to make your narrow band of interests the world as Klansmen do--those morons can't see past what they like in life, thinking: anything outside my interests is inferior. Wise up!
Opera doesn't count as singing? How racist are you?
Whitney can blow!!! She damn near made a hit out of the Star Spangled Banner, but I can name fifty African American Singers that, I appreciate more -- not to say that they are better. If you want to compare white vocalists to a sista, you may wish to present some ammunition like Rachelle Ferrell, Patti Labelle, or Chaka Khan; then, you would have an argument.
What are your talking about? Why is everything about who is better and who is not? For me, and many people, what is better comes down to what we like. Is Whitney Houston "better" than Barbara Streisand? Does she just blow Teena Marie marie away? How about some of these UK singers like Lisa Stansfield, or young artists like Adele and Amy Winehouse (who shares many personal simularities with Whitney)? I certainly do not think that any of these artists are like totally beneath Whitney.
ok mr high and mighty: name me one female white singer who is better than Whitney Houston. I'm only talking about the genre of pop. Don't come at me with some opera singer
From another Black Man: "C" I aggree with dantean and that also goes to lubingruby's ignorant statement about the "ugly broad". I assume he is referring to Taylor Dayne???
Is it remotely possible that David Sanborn "came in too early" with the sax riff? It's Curtis Mayfield's song...
nice song
i wish the ugly broad wasn't singing and it was just him. His voice is so much more interesting
i like the eva cassidy version better check it out if u aint heard it... x
you said "we shouldn't rub it in." Ok so I guess that means you agree with me. I'm glad we're on the same page
A. We shouldn't rub this in B. It depends on the music you're listening to C. This may be the time to keep the ugly things you want to say to others to yourself now that America has a President who is the product of mixed parentage. D. I'm a black man and find your need to say this to others both pathetic and disgusting.
black people are the best singers
Wow!
Not crazy at all. They are very, very similar.
heyyy, i think your right, you can hear the similarities quite clearly with john mayers song and this one.
One of the best albums I ever bought
I thought the same thing
i dont think its that crazy. it sounds so similar to this song
Re: Yes, I was as surprised as you. What a combination! Sorry, that was meant to be about Mr Dave playing steel. I like the stripy legs on his instrument, too.
Yes, I was as surprised as you. What a combination!
its crazy to think that mabey john mayer might have ripped from this song for waiting on the world to change..
>> Is that Jools Holland? Yes. He was the co-host of Night Music in the first season in 1988-89.
Is that Jools Holland?
At the original 1963 March on Washington, the 250,000 count was a conservative early number with more people steadying arriving. At best 500,000 showed up that day. Still, not to take anything from Dr. King, Brother Garvey, if the historical accounts are correct, average one million people at his marches.
yeah! jeff beck's take on this sounded more like where john mayer got it from though
wow this does sound like waiting on the world to change!
by saying 'There's a train a-coming, get ready' that was like saying, okay, so regardless of what happens, get yourself together for this because you are going to get a chance. Your chance is coming. Its about our chance for redemption -- the long-sought chance to rise above racism, to stand apart from despair and any desire for retaliation -- an end to the cycle of pain.
After hearing the Rev. Martin Luther King deliver his "I Have a Dream" speech that August day in 1963, the crowd of 250,000 sang "We Shall Overcome." In 1965, another gospel song emerged -- "People Get Ready" by Mayfield and the Impressions. The song followed several jarring events in American history: the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church which killed four little girls and the assassination of JFK.
Curtis ... A God !!
Yes, that's David Lindley.
Isn`t it David Lindley in the background with the steel guitar?
people get ready is a beautiful song, unfortunately the young lady singing with curtis forgot the lyrics.
