It was no act. I saw the show when it originally aired. The night had been going badly for David the audience was heckling guests,jokes were not working and things were disorganized. When Crispin came out last David was in no mood for him doing his "Mr. Farmer" character.This was during the 80's and David Letterman had one of the highest rated shows on television, he didn't have to use cheap set ups for ratings like today because their was no internet to exploit it!

Some people may not know... when you used to watch Dave's show back in the day when it was on NBC, it wasn't like it is now. You never knew what was going to happen.

all it is though is he is in character as the part in the film he was making at the time. Crispin Glover is a character actor yall, he just happens to do weirder roles than De Niro or Brando did, but he was a character actor.

I dunno, I think Dave was thinking "it's probably an act" up until the moment Glover comes within a couple inches of kicking him in the face. That pissed Dave off and he decided he wasn't going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

If it WAS an act, why didn't Glover tell the press AND David that it was just an act afterwards? He just LET his career die?
