Whilst I have had their song MMM MMM MMM MMM sitting around for a while, I have only recently started listening to the CTD's & my only regret is not finding them sooner, they are a fantastic band. Thankyou for adding these lynnctd!!
Such a beautifull song, there are very few CTD songs i dislike, and even them im bound to love eventually lol
perfection!
They don't write great music like this anymore.
love this song, used to listen to the song over and over, going through all my dads cd's when I was a lil' girl... my brother would yell "oh no, not that one again!".... Good memories! Haha!
I want this song to be played at my funeral. I'm not calling myself Superman, but the melody and lyrics are just so beautiful. This band rules!
This song sends chills...I love it
Yes!, finally some more good comments for this good song. Thanks guys.
Crash Test Dummies are to me the best band from the 90's. Their 3 first album releases: The Ghosts That Haunts Me, God Shuffled His Feet and A Worms Life is a work that will be remembered for a long time i guess! This Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm song was their best known recording, but songs like: The Country Life, The Voyage, Swimming In Your Ocean, Two Knights And Maidens, A Worms Life, There Are Many Dangers, My Own Sunrise and I Am A Dog are well overlooked. I hope someone will post them soon.
My favourite funeral dirge. Some people think Superman was too powerful to be a sympathetic superhero, unlike Batman or Spiderman. I figure that the trying to be so good, while being so powerful, is the point where Superman becomes a figure of pathos.
symbolism, epistemology... + poetry, philosophy... + three testicle's voice = brad roberts :)
Hey jickes1, go keep your smart@zz comments to yourself. Have a nice day. Please EREASE this when you erase his. Thanks
Oppss..."Eliot" is with a single "l".
Not a "fact". A figure. Maybe a "certain" figure.
I definitely would!
lucky your dady
best boy ever (roberts)
awesome... I've never heard of either this band or this song but I had to look it up when a friend said the line "Clark Kent...." interesting, but pretty cool..
I wish TCTD still made music in this style. Their newer stuff is crap. (commercially and in my person opinion anyhow)
This was very sad...RIP Superman.
some times the best gospel music does not mention the name jesus. I love that the clip is a funeral in a catholic church. And some time I too despair the world may never see another man like superman. god bless you. alex from australia
best voice ever, best band ever
This is a great song, over 200,000 people aren't all wrong! I heard it on the radio yesterday and had to track it down. Thanks for posting. If you don't like it, shop elsewhere.
Actually good music had many decades. It just kind of stopped when rap crap took over. I can't give you all the years but if you're a music buff you'll know. Bob Seager, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Iron Butterfly, The Beatles and Don McLean to name a few.
This is a Great song. I wish the still made music like this. 89-1995 was the best time for music.
I'm not the cleverest person in the world but I don't have to be to appreciate a truely great peice of music...
Yeah, someone with the name BallsMacHammer is surely an intelligent person.
This is one of my favorite Superman themed songs. It is a very sad video, except the lead singer keeps smiling at the camera like some kind of jackass. But I won't fault people for vanity, especially when the song is just SO good.
Awesome and well deserved. I'm actually listening to The Ghosts That Haunt Me album for the first time and I have to say, it's not incredible. My dad showed my GSHF and it's still one of my favourite albums ever. Bought it for countless friends too.
I say something similar to people who tease me for liking CTD: "You don't have the mental capacity to understand how brilliant CTD are."
^ Taken from w w w . s o c a n . c a ^
I accidentally deleted JohannVonKrieger's comment: "Ball-Hammer these lyrics are for educated people. It is clear you are not one of those. To understand them you must have been schooled in T.S. Elliot and have contemplated the mortality of man. They are obviously beyond your ability to comprehend. I pity you."
Supermans Song "Very often, classic songs are catchy, uptempo tunes, but some come from the other end of the spectrum. In 1991, Winnipegs Crash Test Dummies released their first album, The Ghosts That Haunt Me, and the first single was Supermans Song. A slow and somewhat mournful tune, its sophisticated lyrics and imagery combined with the music to capture the imagination of listeners across the continent. Accepting the SOCAN Classic Award is the songs writer, Brad Roberts."
On November 17, 2008 Brad Roberts received the SOCAN Classic Awards for Superman's Song having achieved the 100,000-airplay mark on domestic radio.
Ahhh, memories sigh
I want to cite a comment by rpupkin77 "It is about the death of the North American concept of the ideal man. Which, of course, superman represents." How very true.
Oh, I just love this song... I'm in love with Superman, so I was so excited to hear this! :D It's so awesomely dramatic I just have to listen to it over and over again.
hahaha I halosux4life love the name never liked Halo, just couldnt get into it. *GASP* I JUST GAVE A NEGATIVE OPINION ABOUT A VRY POPULAR VIDEO GAME, now Im worried your all gonna (Mocking voice) thumbs me down. whatever. Ayet again love the name.
The lyrics are what made this band so good, they were witty and smart. It's too bad that so many people were too stupid to get them.
the critics opinions are but dust on the floor of life! ..this band kicks ass!!
this song is amazing!!!
Tell you what though.... The video......shades of "WATCHMEN"? The graphic novel....not Hollywoods latest. ..Not read it? Try typing WATCHMEN into google..and ignore the film reports. If the comments make you want to read it....you wont be dissapointed.
Hi Sirholme, Yeah! Err..well..maybe..? Listen again..could be you might find some satire..maybe a bit of allegory? or, to put it it another way..If the song wasn't about Superman..who would it be about? ..and would the lyrics still be dumb then? Worth another listen? ...But you're right about the lyrics being bad for business. Too few understood them. Good music..but maybe too clever for their own good?
the lyrics are awesome!!
Great tune, but terrible lyrics. Most of their songs were that way, too bad... If they had a better writer maybe their fame in the mainstream could have lasted longer. Keep loving them though.
Awesome song. I think of Ron Paul when I listen to it.
join Tarzan in the forest, sounds good sometimes.
On my previous comment, I of course went to refer to them as CTDs not CTCD...
I don't care for most of the songs by CTCD but this one was always alright. Seeing the video gave me a weird freaky chill.
this will always be an amazing song. forever.
