Wow..all the Sibelius concertos by oders sound very lifeless..he added life to it man...I mean..the beggining solo is played so emotionless...even in 3:39 lot of emotions can be felt....wow...And Zubin...Im so prous of you..at least on Indian origin is a world-class conductor!!!
So many things about your statement scare me badstringer.
unbelievable. indeed the best version of Sibelius i have heard.
I like it when he uses the whole bow. Really nice ^w^ very few masters do that..
oui à tes 4 questions.
Grand cousin ? Tu es donc indien d'origine ? Tu as connu Ferras ?
My oncle Zubin is conducting. Very young ! Merveilleuse version du Sibélius avec Ferras. Marc Tettiravou.
im pianist and not a violinist and I don't know if this is the best rendition ever, but I know that no other recording has touched my heart so deep as this one.Just amazing
NAILS! This is awesome. I love this!
I have a live recording of this by Izack Pearlman with the BSO back around 1977. I recorded it live off a simulcast. I still have the cassette tape. This is the only performance of this that comes close to the way I prefer it performed. Well done and nice post. Thanks
this is such an awesome piece!!!!
I've listened to some interpretations of this concerto, and this has always been my favourite. <3 alexthegreat490, I love his vibrato in first frase. Turns it into a "lamento" of such a heartbraking beauty that I get breathless. :)
Just love it(L)
I think Leonidas plays w/out the chin and shoulder rests like Ferras. I think they both nail the violin to their collar bones before each performance ; )
Nods. Ferras owns it.
I can't listen to ferras because of his vibrato, it seems to ruin every piece he plays. That being said, I still very much like his Sibelius.
I preder mature perfomances nothing against hillary she is technically very goood but thse kinda pieces you have to have soul. This is excellent but oistrakh and vengrov reign supreme.
this is a really random comment.. but how did they record the sound of that? it sounds very clean, and there dont seem to be any microphones near them...
Actually he is Heifetz's student?
Your taste is so right.
You are not alone my friend, this is my favorite interpretation along with Heifetz's.
I think Hillary Hahn is a great violinist. but i think Ferras plays this piece with more soul and passion. i like soulfull playing rather than perfect technicality but i don't know. thats just my taste
Actually, it's not always that narrow, I take that back, but his vibrato isn't comfortable to watch or listen to.
Hilary Hahn's is easier to listen to. And she doesn't scratch like he does. And his vibrato is too fast and narrow. That's what my ears tell me. (Hopefully no one will bash me for sharing an opinion.)
I just turn into butter every time i hear this piece! gives me goosebumps every time, just absolutely ...amazing...*sigh* :)
le 14 septembre 1982, Christian Ferras met fin à ses jours en se défénestrant. Il est inhumé au cimetière de Cachan.
You're wrong. Sibelius' parents were both born in Finland. In fact, the whole family hadn't any relationships to Sweden, altough they spoke Swedish. Namely because Finland has two official languages: Finnish and Swedish.
Nope. Killed for his Strad.
You mean Sibelius's Swedish heritage. He was born into a Swedish-speaking family, his parents were both from Sweden.
Nice to see the clarinets enjoying themselves at 5:18! Thanks for posting.
are you sure? I thought he took an overdose of pills or something...
Very nice.
I heard he jumped out of the window while giving violin lesson to a finnish player. This was in 1982.
around 10:50 my heart melts :)
extraordinary performance of Sibelius....just wonderful & with the right mood
Many thanks for this video and the other movements. I will treasure them forever
what a sound!
yes he committed suicide exactly 26 years ago on14sept.1982
Ferras was the fucking man. Sibelius was phenomenal with capturing cold, dark, and grey elements in his compositional abilities (obviously due to his Finnish heritage) but watching/listening to Ferras play this concerto I can't help but feel chills down my spine.
that's what wiki says...
is it true that ferras killed himself??
Mythic!
His Tchaikovsky with Karajan was very inspired, but not much hyped about. It's the spirituality that comes through. Very hard to do, since you have to be spiritually inspired first!!
Perfect interpretation and a beautiful sound!!
argh cest tellement beau :'(
There is no better reddition of the Sibelius Concerto than Ferras': and I have all the recordings.
esta interpretacion es una d las mejores de sibelius
