This is an instructional video of how to catch Mew, the infamous 151st Pokemon in the original Red and Blue versions, without the use of a cheating device, and on your first trip to Cerulean City.

Just to clarify some of the questions that people are having:

1. For those of you who are having trouble battling the Slowpoke Trainer (game freezes) make sure he is walking up to you and you are not just walking in front of him.

2. This was done on a Pokemon Blue ROM. Not Yellow, not Red. The reason the colors are what they are is because the emulator I used to play it was a GameBoy Color emulator and for some reason the emulator put colors which are not the same when you play the game with an actual GameBoy Color.

3. This apparently works on Pokemon Yellow, according to some users. While I personally have not tried this glitch with Yellow Version, other users say that it works so I should clarify here that it does.

4. No, this does not work in Fire Red and Leaf Green.

5. The music is called "Fish" by DJ Shine, not Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones. I had to change it because of copyright issues.

He will apear in any route. He will apear at the enterance of any route that u fly/teleport away from a trainer that has seen u. Its just a trick with the game data and they way the game way programmed. This and another vid got me dusting off my GBA:SP and picking up my R,B,Y,Go,Sl, pokemon games.

You'll have to go to Ebay and find it there. No stores sell the old red/blue versions anymore.

before i found a mew on yellow version while i was at the rock tunnel it was the same lvl as on the video but it keeps escaping even if you wekeaned him.

You CAN catch Abra without using Sing. Just save, find an Abra, and use a Poke Ball. If it misses, reload. Tedious, yes. But compared to leveling a Jigglypuff to level 25 before Mount Moon...

It depends on the Special Stat, which needs to be 21 in order to catch Mew. It's just based on hexadecimal numbers. 8 D

The pkmn that appears depends on the stats of the pkmn you battled before it. I think its speed. (For example, the slowpoke's speed is x, therefore mew appears. In your case, you battled some cycler's pokemon, so a different one appeared when you went to claim your "mew" but hitmonchan appeared

i just did this cheat but i couldn't use the slowpoke trainer i just used a trainer from cycling road that also walks over to you
then the menu bar could re appear
then i flew to Cerulean city and walked up and the exact same thing happened but the only difference was the pokemon that came up was a hitmonchan instead of Mew.
Maybe the way i did it is a way to get the other fighting pokemon you didn't pick.

i have already battled the slowpoke trainer but not the trainner in the grass. Does that make a difference?

using jigglypuff isn't vital, I did this a few days ago & sing wasn't v good. u cud use attacks like thunder wave or stun spore & bring LOTS of pokeballs

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is fake! There is nothing under the truck, and you cannot use strength on the truck anyways

you know mew can be caught with out any of that right... just use a blue and yellow get a cut and surf and strangth pokemon on blue, trade to yellow then when done on that cruise ship it wont sail. you surf across water use strength on a specifiec truck and under that mew comes out... yea everyone is happy!

cheers mate, ive been trying to get mew for ages.... i started a new game and traded it to my other game so now i have 151 on red and 250 on gold... any ideas on how to catch celebi lol?

in the info section to the right of the video he explains he used a GB emulator to record this video. But I've done it with a Gameboy Pocket on the Blue version of the game, and it still worked just like in the video.

I was able to get Mew before I got my second badge. I used a level 17 Beedrill to catch Mew. Two Poison Stings (one was a critical), and the first Pokeball successfully captured Mew. Maybe I was just lucky, though. If I ended up having a problem, I had a Butterfree with Sleep Powder that I could use.

ah good times this remind me once when i actoully COUGHT MEW OR MEWTWO I THINK IT WAS MEW i was brilliant i completed the game my mewtwo was able to take down any pokemons hp in one hit im sure it was in one of te older versions but i used other pokemons like jigglypuff and other with REALY useful moves but then i was like 8 or something when tat happend and then i started a new game cuz i felt like it but then i accidently saved it was a sad day for me
