sweet the rain's new fall sunlit from heaven, like the first dewfall on the first grass. Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden, sprung in completeness where his feet pass. text Eleanor Farjeon what a wonderful song...
Une musique à vous faire vibrer tout le corps.
He is praising God's "re-creation" of each new day
he is praising the creation of God. I dont know.
Well, it's probably because of the lines "Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden Sprung in completeness where his feet pass" (Could be taken to mean god or jesus) and then also "Born of the one light, Eden saw play Praise with elation, praise every morning God's recreation of the new day". That may be why you sang it in church. =)
i'm not sure about the blackbird, or why it has actually spoken(huh?) as a christian, i've sang this song at church a few times, but in looking at the lyrics, i could never honestly figure out why it was actually in the hymnal (aside from the use of the words "praise for the...") there must be some metaphorical intentions that haven't sunk in yet. nice version of this song, though.
what's with the blackb bird actually?
Such a beautiful song. Always moves me. =)
we had this for our wedding. Memories, for sure
Memories of old school assemblies. A moving performance
I saw Cat sometime back in the 70's at the old Cap Center in MD. When he did this song, which was done solo, (much better I might add)........ some girls in the front started yelling, (as they always did back then). Cat stopped playing. He looked at the group of girls, asked them to stop yelling, and instead, listen to the words of the music. I'll never forget it. The guy is very very talented.
Thank you for posting this. I love Cat Stevens and I love this song.
Anyway he was talentuous before converting to islam and after ! I am a muslim but i do listen to every kind of good music and lyrics whatever be the religion of the artist :-)

Ahhh...takes me back to 1973..when life was so easy and carefree. An all time favorite song.....
wow.. first time in a long time i read comments that appericate the man's talents and not his religion and that's the way things should be. and yeah it's very beautiful song
Love it !
I also remember this song (fondly) from my childhood. However, I recently discovered that the melody Cat Stevens used in the creation of this song was not of his own making, but was copied from an old Scottish Christmas Carol called "Child in a Manger." Sarah Brightman sings this original version in her new Christmas CD entitled "A Winter Symphony." It's a very beautiful song with lyrics that are equally as beautiful as Stevens's. If you like Christmas music, check it out! /watch?v=PDnHtQ10Gi8

This song is so moving. It celebrates creation and our place in it. It talks about god's providence through it. It talks of the power of living in the moment and savouring allof creation...breath-taking sunrise, rainbows in th sky, gentle rain, etc.
