its actually based on a true story of a man whos wife died and he loved her that much he couldnt let her go
so he left her dead in the bed put a gas mask on her face or something and he kept her and didnt tell annyone she was dead
for the siple fact he loved her so much he could not let her go
and when the man died when they came to collect his body they found hers aswell
and he wrote a song about it.

There is a funny thing that occurred with me , my sister and this song. We've always listened to Cat Stevens in my house, but my family didn't know English when I was a child. Well, when I was 14 my father decided to put his 2 daugthers in an English course. About an year later while listening this song my sister and I ended up understanding it. It was like "What the heck!?! The woman is dead!". The face my father put while listening the translation of the "dead woman song" was hilarious! XD

In reply to Salccc, "this rose will never die" is about his love for his lady. Technically, he does know she is dead the entire time, he's talking about her in her grave. This is my interpretation of the lyrics, so don't be too surprised if I'm wrong :) ~Cali~☺☻♥

Religion doesn't kill people. Even being an athiest I can see that, religion helps people to lead better lives. Some zealots just use it as an excuse to kill. If it wasn't religion they would find another excuse I'm sure. Stop blaming concepts like religion for hate and death and blame the people who commit the atrocities.
