There are many conductors who dance around on the podium and make wide, dramatic gestures. With two notable exceptions, all of them do this for the benefit of themselves (self-indulgent) and/or for the benefit of the audience (vanity), not for the benefit of the orchestra, and so I have little respect for them. Those two exceptions are Leonard Bernstein (who was a little of the former two too) and Carlos Kleiber.
Hitlercakes! lol.
This is the theme from "Zardoz", the old John Boorman directed sci-fi with Sean Connery.
Hear! Hear! This is indeed DIVINE!
AMAZING !!! AMAZING !!! AMAZING !!!
The Concertgebouw is one of the nicest hall i ever saw in my entire life. And Kleiber was a god for me! Such a shame he died...Those person should be immortal!
How did you know about the orchestra and the hall? Have you watched it in Amsterdam?
what a stupid comment, really, you are stupid, please shut up
Kleiber was an incredible conductor, who could communicate unlike anyone I've ever seen. This is among the greatest musical achievements I know of. Superlatives are just not enough here....
So wrong. Diedrich Nikolaus Winkel invented the first practical/modern metronome in 1814, although devices for that purpose go back to the late 1600's. Johann Nepomuk Mälzel took a patent out and basically stole the invention from Winkel in 1816. Beethoven knew Mälzel, and thought the "invention" he was pushing was quite silly at first, and poked fun at him in a vocal canon, which later became the material for the 2nd movement of the 8th symphony.
My computer's speakers are weird, I had to set everything to max before I could here the beginning, and I still missed bits. But I agree with almost everyone else. Kleiber is an awesome conductor, though I found it hard to pinpoint where the beat was in some areas. (Not so much in this movement, but in the last). And Beethoven truly was a genious, if a little ahead of his time.
God in music, God in Kleiber!
This is so wonderful.
My comment was directed at the following statement of zofla90 (made about a month ago): "Carlos Kleiber a great man? what does he has to do with it. Is Beethoven's music."
One of the silliest comments ever on YouTube. Ever hear a plodding, sloppy, or sickeningly sweet version of a composer's great work? If not, you don't listen to much music, or you don't care about whether a performance does justice to the work being performed. That's why Kleiber's performances of Beethoven are so wonderful. CK IS great because he has the sensibility and the will to bring the orchestra to a point where it is prepared to deliver a great performance of a great work. Basta detto.
Is it not a bit risky to even play fast tempo for a conductor that had such a restrainted repertory ? After Celibidache, the man who conducts slow, here's the man that conducts fast !
Kleiber is one of my favorit conductors! Anazing.
What creativity and simply magnificent. Klauber is simply superb and Beethoven God's incarnation!
This clip just shows what a genius Beethoven really was and is.
I appreciate you writing it in english (and its not bad). Well, I have to admit I have forgotten the matter in discuss, but I appreaciate your polight debating.
sorry, but my english is very bad...I hope you'll understand. the world is full of self-styled musician who only want to prove how exaggerated is their obtuse virtuosity, and they play in concert as the gould's divine clown (I mean that gould talks about this kind of "musicians"..) but kleiber was different, he was a man with a own individuality, he tought that performers have to trascend (I don't know if it mean what I'm thinking about...) a score or if not they have to look up for a new job
I did not understand what you've said. I'm sure it is not a good thing about my comment given that I can link some words. However I would be glad to understand it, so if you could translate it
the conductor gets to interpret the music as he likes?! What the fuck are you talking about. Having you studied music? Academic music is not OPEN TO INTERPRETATIONS.
It does depend in the ability of the conductor. HOwever, no matter how extraordinary the conductor's ability is, no beethoven; no music. Great man = Beethoven
umm....he's called a CONDUCTOR. he conducts the music, and puts all the parts of the piece together. it's true that beethoven DID compose the music, but conductors get to interpret the music as they like, so the outcome and overall sound of the piece depends on the ability of the conductor.
lol yeah, i know...i was just saying that it would be nice if there was, since i only play the piano and i would love to take part in recreating such a great piece of music
YOu don't need a piano part in the orchestra. It's from Beethoven, he probably wrote on piano first, as mny symphonies are composed.
Carlos Kleiber a great man? what does he has to do with it. Is Beethoven's music.
Que dire...? Magnifique.
Kleiber is my inspiration to become a conductor someday.
is realy ANDANTE... someone change to ALLEGRETTO(KARAJAN)
beautiful. I love this. It is supposed to be "allegretto" but it is actually sad.
mee too, it makes me cry, even if I heard it a lot of times...carlos kleiber was a great man ♥
i love it! <3
i don't know what temp it SHOULD be played, but i definitely like furtwangler's slow version more.
hear furtwangler at watch?v=Hu9IESxziWA
awesome. i love this symphony. i think it's my favourtie out of beethoven's 9 symphonies. Lol i play the piano, and sometimes i wish that there was a piano part in the orchestra.
This is by far the most beautiful dramatic piece of music I know.
I'm a cellist too, and we played this piece for our festival last year. It was amazing, and I absolutely love the cellists' part in the beginning. It's really moving. Love love love it.
oh sweet. im a cellist too. ive played the part before, isnt it beutiful?
im doin this movement for school and im the cello part.
I've heard a lot of slower performances of this too, but the score is marked 76 bpm to the quarter note. Kleiber is right on the money except in the sections in which he slows to end the phrases. And hey, Karajan was a master too :-)
