I wish Chomsky weren't so dismissive. Although Ali's ideas seemed a tad silly and pointless, there are loads of synonyms for all sorts of words that are always being developed so there's a chance his could stick.

That's how Noam Chomsky always talks (I've never seen him talk any other way even going back to the 1960s). I am guessing you've never heard of him? He's pretty well known.

Couldn't a linguist as experienced as Chomsky tell that the guy was acting? For example, I don't know of any dialect that would use the objective case of a pronoun (such as 'them animals speak') as the subject of a verb quite as often as Ali G does... Also, all the verbal puns and intentional ambiguity...lots of humor is in language now that I think about it,lol...

i totally agree...i studied linguistics at ucla -- a dept. that is heavily influenced by chomskyan dogma, especially the syntax dept -- and was in shock to find out that chomsky founded a religion. ;-)
