I agree with you. The term you are referring to is "Mestizo". Mestizo is a mixture of Spanish and Indigenous blood lines. "Mexican" decent are extremely diverse looking. Btw, Mexico's demographics are about 60% Mestizo,are extremely diverse looking. Mestizos come in all different shades and colors.

well if you've noticed lately, in every legal paper you will find nowadays: White(non-hispanic) and hispanic(all races). The government have realized that there are hispanic of all races including white hispanics. You should catch up moosedog.

I think the issue here is you don't acknowledge hispanic as a race. You tell me to not "have the perception that Hispanic is a single group or race that every person of Latin American or Spanish descent has to identify with as it's race." But I say to you to not have the perception that being white skinned makes you white"race" 100% of the time. They could be hispanic/latino.

Ya those 3 countries have a mostly white population, I didn't forget that, mexico has a 9% white population but even then most of the people in the latin americas are mixed white-european/amer-indian. And yes the term hispanic/latino is used throughout latin america.Yeah the media "overlooks" white hispanics for "browns" when the part needed is hispanic, otherwise they are cast as whites, because the american sterotype for hispanic is "brown" and not light skinned or "white".

No they don't. When they come here they do because of how stupid the system is and how the media tends to overlook white Hispanics for so-called "browns". Look up the stats on the CIA fact book to see how the people classify themselves in each country. You also forget that Argentina, Uruguay and Cuba have white majority populations. Mexico has the 3rd or 4th largest population of whites in it's country although outnumbered by mestizos and amerindians.

Thats why I said Hispanic in the modern interpretation of the word, and the racial category of hispanic or latino is used all through out latin america. Most of the people living in latin america are mixed, along with a few "pure" blacks and whites and native americans. Colombia for example has a 90% part inigenous(white-euro/amer-indian) population, what do you think they refer to themselves as? part european white and part native american? no, they consider themselves hispanic/latino.

Also the real meaning of Hispanic is Spanish. Hispanic was the Roman word for a person that came from Spain.

Well if you lived in Latin America you wouldn't be able to call yourself a Hispanic because that sort of ethnic/racial classification doesn't exist. You would either have to be white, black, mixed or Native Indian.

I'm not sure how you can be of "hispanic ancestry" and call yourself white.Hispanic(in modern terminology) is a mix of european and native american, but hey, thats your thing far be it from me to tell you what to call yourself. I disagree on Hispanic not being a race, when people ask me what race I am or when filling out any paper work that asks that, I say hispanic, I don't say that I'm part white european and part native american. I consider myself hispanic the way you consider yourself white.

Dude, ethnicity and race isn't the same thing. You can be white and be European, American, Mexican, whatever. It's just a skin color. I am an American of Hispanic ancestry; that is my ethnicity, but if you would ask me what my race is, I would answer white. That's all I'm saying. Hispanic is not a race but a whole blend of different ethnic, religous and racial backgrounds.

Apparently you can't tell the difference between skin color and ethnicity real, I am mexican american and very light skinned, my brother has slightly darker skin than Alexis bledel, that doesen't make us white. I know I'm part white, all hispanics are part european. Thats what makes us hispanic and not native american or amer-indian. What do you consider all the latinos from mexico to the southern tip of chile? white if they're light skinned and native american if they're darker?

Let me get this straight then. Kevin Costner who claims he has "Native American" blood in him, isn't a part of the white race then because he he's part Indian. But yet is clearly white. Stop being a racist ignorant American and get the thought outta your head that only white people come from Europe and the U.S. I'm an American and my parents were born in South America, but my great grandparents came from Spain and Italy. So that doesn't make me white then? Silly thought.

Hispanics are a mix of european and amer-indian blood, the percantage of each varies greatly in latin america. This leads to many "white" skinned hispanics, but it doesen't make them part of the "white race" any more than a white guy tanning removes them from the "white race".

yeah one time i saw a salvatorian family while i was in mty mexico with a friend, the one that posted the last one, im american but hes mexican and we get along really cool, so yeah that girl was dang pretty

People seem surprised by the mixed race, in latin america, i think there`s a very little group of aboriginal population, most of the european inmigration of the 19th c settled on south america and in some parts of central america, but this are things you learned in school, and social classes are determined by our race, not now, but since the 19th c nothing has changed a lot, i`m white, i can see the reality with family from lower and upper class.
