I remember seeing this when I was a child. Brought tears to my eyes.

Well it creates a bit of tension and drama. I'll say that. Of course little is made of it after that, as we then move on to the actual plot in the movie about Ace going to Africa.

Nowadays I have mixed veiws about this. In this film, I feel sorry for the poor raccoon as Ventura tried to save him and the animal ended up falling to its death. But on the other hand, I see the reason why this was made. A lot of people in the US hate raccoons because they cause a lot of trouble around human dwellings. So I can only imagine that some people who hate them enjoy this watching this scene where the poor frightened animal falls to its death after slipping away from Ventura's grip.

"It's just one little raccoon. If I were you I'd turn back." In other words that's his way of saying "Who gives a shit about some worthless peice of shit raccoon? It's just going to die anyway. Just forget about it." Those guys in the helicoptor are good examples of heartless individuals who believe that nuisance animals don't deserve compassion and deserve only death. It's a sad and cruel world we live in.

Cliffhanger is still the better movie but this is a good laugh.

never forget seeing this at the cinema and having tears in my eyes at dropping the racoon lol i was only like 8 lol looking at this now cant get over how funny jim carey used to be , loving the piss colored shirt, ace rocks!

The poor raccoon was terrified. And it had all the right to be. It had so much to fear. And even though its not seen, its obvious that the animal suffered a horrible death falling all the way to the ground.

Overall, this movie was ok for me. But I never much liked the beginning. I always found it quite disturbing as I tend to feel sorry for the poor raccoon. He didn't have a chance of surviving even though Ventura tried so desperately to save him. Turns out, he was trying to save a raccoon that was just going to die anyway. Those bastards in the helicoptor could have saved the poor animal but they just abandoned it cuz they just didn't care.

the plane crashed on a totally different mountain how did the racoon cross a gourge, then climb to the top of the other mountain lmfao this is funniest scene in movie other than when he gets shot by like 20 darts.
