Part 02 - That's just one of the MANY examples of how humans can go about NOT succuming to our instincts. So you can use abstinence as 100% STD and pregnancy prevention.
Part 01 - Not true. What seperates human beings from the other animals is our ability to subjugate our instincts in all other ways. For example, the nature of any animal or organism is to do whatever is best for me and mine at all times. If we only operated by our instincts or had to giv into them and can't resist them. then there'd be no unselfish, altruistic, or sacrifical people.
AeonMobile, and nobody should tell them to have sex!
Anyone who has not been in an abstinence education class doesn't know what they are talking about.
randommagnum - I agree with you!
Excuse me, but teens have heard nothing but sex education for the past 20 plus years!!
okay, okay everyone, calm down. you can all stop being pissed off and threatening others with your comments. there's nothing wrong with abstinence, just like there's nothing wrong with safely engaging in sex. this woman did an awkward job of explaining that the government is trying to promote a certain religious viewpoint all across the country while denying correct sex ed to teens. that's all..
Yes, the hypothesis of abstinence is 100% safe, but has no real efficacy since it is battling against our much stronger and evolved instincts to mate, where it looses every time. The solution to this problem is to optimize: simultaneously maximize potential coitus and minimize spread of disease. All other doctrine is irrelevant next to this directive.
this lady is completely nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i agree. WHY does there have to be religion??!! I don't need a HUMAN to tell me how to live. I figure if your a good person, then what the hell. ya know
Power to him!
Abstinence sucks dont do it kids. Nobody can tell you not to have sex.
Nah, I'm not buying that. Believe me, I would really like for what you are suggesting to be true, that her criticisms are only about educational prescription and not anyone's prudent lifestyle, but her implicit arguments and demonstrations tell a different story. Same with the Midwest Teen Sex Show... Even if there's no outright criticism of abstinence or those who practice it, it's that cynicism itself which hosts an atmosphere of persecution. I'm just calling it like I see it.
Her "sideways jabs" at abstinent people were mostly geared towards the people promoting abstinence-only education in place of proper sex-ed. Consider, also, that proper sex-ed would also cover abstinence. That show isn't designed to persecute those who choose to abstain, it's designed to: "Midwest Teen Sex Show is here to provide sex information in a clear and entertaining way." Taken from their own website. It is extremely cynical about abstinence, but not designed to persecute them.
Not riding in a car is a 100% effective way to not get killed in a car crash. Wearing your seatbelt could save 50% of the lives of people that are killed in car crashes if they would have been wearing them. Would you JUST teach people about the safety of traveling on foot, or would you teach them about seat belts in case they ever did end up in a car? Abstinence-ONLY education is a waste of money and is ineffective.
That is a bad analogy my friend, it has been proved again and again by the CDC is that abstinence is 100% safe from diseases and unwanted pregnancies but with contraceptives and being responsible about it only reduces the risks. To avoid to get hit by a car is to look out for cars and look both ways before crossing.
No, actually it is you who missed the real point. You only cited two areas of her presentation: promotion of religion, and actual effectiveness. In addition to her numerous sideways jabs at abstinent people all the way through, I don't see how you can ignore the "Midwest Teen Sex Show" toward the end, which she endorses. Are you going to try and tell me that isn't designed to persecute those who choose to abstain? How would an impressionable teen feel after THAT kind of "education"?
my friend is going to have sex and he's only 13!!!! turning 14 next year! =O
Also she points out that abstinence in place of proper sex-ed is failing the youth of the country, resulting in the highest rate of teen/underage pregnancy in the world - especially Texas, one of the most right-wing conservative states. Also, that not teaching the real facts about sexual reproduction is causing many young people to rely on information passed onto them by friends who themselves are misinformed.
You've all missed the point. She was illuminating the fact that the Abstinence funding program initiated by the US Govt under Bush was a front to promote religious teaching in their public schools. Which, by the way are required under their law/constitution to be secular in nature. The numerous religious organisations/ties to organisations she mentions should be enough to highlight this.
I've heard arguments against abstinence-only education, and I'm not going to say that there isn't that sides to the story since we don't all share the same religious beliefs... But to actually discourage abstinence itself, and persecute those who do go that route is just plain jerky. If I would've had to guess where such ideas would've originated from, San Francisco would've been at the top of the list. Surprise, surprise.
No, it doesn't work for you. It is an option that needs to be taught, in a positive way. The fact that some people still do it doens't prove that it doesn't work, many people abstain til marriage, so it does work. and millions of people in africa die because they can't keep it in their pants, and aids runs rampid there. Abstinence is a good, pure thing. I am not being rude or fundamentalist.
Is this objective a enough, it dosent work!!!! Not even for kids of these fucking fundamentalists, the vice presidents daughter is pregnant. So tell me jackass how abstinence is going to work on normal kids when it dosent even work on the kids to the insane people that supports it. Hypocrisy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Abstinence is built on lies and is going to kill millions of people in Africa.
of caourse, ur junk tingles and it feels good so of coarse ur gonna like it if it feels good
Well, sex can be addictive.
Her list of achievments and accomplishments and where she comes from tells me everything about her. She is as far left as anyone could be. At least the title isn't decieving. The way she mocks abstinence is not appropriate as a professor or teacher. She needs to be objective and present her stuff in an objective and reasonable manner
"maybe 'its' is a noun??"...... no, you morally lost, factually confused, stuck up, ignorant, conceded, politically stupid, monetarily unfamiliar, grammatically uneducated, wishfully thinking, gullible when convenient, unjustifiably insulting, sub-par researching advocate of porn and insincere sex
Boring!!! This lady is a idiot. Instead of dealing the real issue of sex, she talks about how much she hates Bush.
Calling someone immature is the EXACT SAME THING as assuming someone is INFERIOR. Contradictory logic my friend. We all believe some behaviors are inferior to others. Don't pretend you don't either.
Gee, I wonder what her economic interests may be. She writes books about sexuality promoting it...which means that if you have sex and want advice you'll buy her book. A sexologist? Talking about sex? Promoting it? Really? I cannot believe it, who'd say she would!!! It's like a chocolate salesman talking about the benefits of cacao. Come on!! Besides, as many others have pointed out, she missed information and/or skip it. Yeah, I can see why I should listen to her on sexual conduct.
I was exactly the same way, and I can't stand the way kids are blatantly lied to in school about these things and most parents don't step in to straighten them out about it either. I just hope more kids will do what I did and look it up on the internet!
I ignored my school's b.s. about abstinence. For many one of which being their nonsense "statistic" that condoms fail 80%+ of the time. Secondly, I never intended to get married or at least not until I was closer to my 30's. So as a 16 year old I knew then I wasn't going to wait until I got married, because I wasn't going to be a damn virgin for over a decade. Condoms, birth control. They work wonders.
It is the parents job to educate their children about contraceptives not the health educators. Abstinence education programs do give accurate information regarding contraceptives and their failure rates.
Additionally she neglected to include information about Planned Parenthood's endorsement of abstinence as the healthiest choice for teens. The CDC states,"The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is to abstain from sexual intercourse, or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and you know is uninfected...no protective method is 100 percent effective, and condom use cannot guarantee absolute protection against any STD."
This video is highly offensive and full of flaws! Teens who are being abstinent are making good choices for themselves and should not be put down because of their decisions. Violet Blue should sit through an Abstinence class! She mentioned the "ABC strategy" but failed to mention what "C" stands for, which is Condoms!
Comparing sex to heroin is like comparing unicorns and puppies to nuclear waste.
It does fail. People get caught up in the heat of the moment and were told that condoms don't work, so they don't use them. THAT'S how a lot of people get pregnant/STI's. It's not as simple as not having sex. I could imagine that if a person wanted to be abstinent, they would have to avoid many "compromising" situations with the opposite (same?) sex, not to mention channel their sex drives into other activities. Sexuality is natural, so that would be really tough to do.
It's great if you want to wait, more power to you! I know a lot of people who wouldn't have that ability because they don't intend to get married for a while. But you know what isn't great? Immediately making the assumption that anyone who is having premarital sex is INFERIOR TO YOU. That, my friend, is a sign of immaturity on YOUR part.
Abstinence also encourages marrying young which is a flip of a coin for divorce. You should have experience in relationships & sex to find out the real difference between lusty sex & making love. You are more encouraged to marry someone when the prize is sex. You don't want to be confused w/ what your actual motive is for marrying the guy even though you think you're in love w/ him which may very well be just a crush or limerence.
Here is why abstinence is dumb. You're taking risks that your partner can't sexually satisfy you, he has a creepy fetish (think scat), he finds out later that he's gay after sex, you find out he doesn't have a penis, etc. & in vise versa. If a romantic relationship is the reason for marriage & you don't want an asexual marriage, you should know everything about him, encluding sex since it is one of the main factors for healthy adult relationships.
Yes it is, there is no point to it. Marriage doesn't prevent unwanted pregnancy, STIs, nor cheating. Anyone can abstain, but not everyone can, will, or wants to. No, it's takes a person w/ paranoia & irrational beliefs. Character of arrogance, it seems. Abstinence is no better than having sex outside of marriage & it is not something to feel more superior than others for. Good for you, I personally perfer someone who has experience.
Waiting until marriage is NOT dumb. It's realistic for me because I'm living proof that anyone can abstain from sex. Anyone can have sex, but it takes a mature person with character and self-control to wait and abstain. At least when I do meet Mr. Right, I won't have to tell him all the sexual partners I had because I will have none!!!
Waiting until marriage is as dumb as waiting until you get your period to cut your hair for the 1st time or waiting until you're 32 yr old to play videogames for the 1st time. Marriage does nothing for sex, sex is no different inside or outsude of marriage. Saying yes to sex are none of those signs unless you have unprotected sex & never gave a real thought in your decision. If you use protection & thought about your decision concerning the circumstances, having sex is a sign of maturity.
when someone says youre prude, that must mean youre doing something right.
whatever, you probably never had a chance to get laid.
Well, I consider myself sane and I'm saving myself for marriage. I beieve in abstinence and Im not a loser!!! People who won't say no to sex, it's a sign of immaturity and a lack of self-control.
How cute I'm getting emotionnal cause that's the first time I see a virgin on youtube.
You are just a big asian stereotype.
You just are the average over-masturbating person.
i have to be in the kind of world that we live in.
