yesterday I had to report a car accident and it was forever. Thank You for calling the CHP emergency line, please stay on the line. I hung up and then I used my OnStar System. They connected me and help was there immediatly. 32 Minutes later I recieved a call from 911 on my cell phone saying that I musused 911. Now I have a $89 ticket and a court apearance. I explained it to them what had happened and they said it is a missuse of 911.

You alarms in your home don't go to 911. It goes to who monitors the company who monitors your alarm (ADT, Brinks, etc.) Also the problem is that 80% of calls aren't life or property threatening emergencies. Please show me that law that its legal to call 911 to "test" your phone. Another problem CHP Dispatchers are usually dumb and under trained. (I'm a Fire/EMS 911 Dispatcher by the way.)

If less people would call for "what time is it?" or "when are the cops gonna get here?" or "my phone isn't working" or "this isn't an emergency BUT..." then PERHAPS there would be less of a wait. maybe.

However, CHP's cellular 9-1-1 service does not go directly to a dispatcher. It goes to a recorded message that asks you to press a key on your phone if you're calling to report an emergency. This feature cuts down dramatically on the calls dispatchers have to answer from phones that have inadvertently dialed 9-1-1 after being bumped or sat on.

Actually, calling 9-1-1 to test your service is perfectly legal. In fact, it's a required part of setting up an alarm system in your home. If a dispatcher answers, you must simply tell the dispatcher that the call is only a test.

For this interview you see her calling 911 and pressing send which is illegal. What are your thoughts. How could they have her call 911 without an emergency? Was the 911 center notified or did Jenny get reprimanded.
